The Legacy Project is dedicated to helping commercial real estate professionals gain access to invaluable historical archives of the industry.
Since 1971, The Northern California Chapter of The CCIM Institute has revolutionized the field and our project captures the stories, milestones, and achievements that have shaped our local industry. Explore interviews, photos, and more to discover the profound impact of The Northern California Chapter on our market, and the CCIM Institute.
We're building a legacy.
Despite its significant role in shaping commercial real estate investment analysis, little has been recorded about the Institute’s historical impact. As CCIM and the Northern California Chapter celebrated their 50th anniversaries in 2019 and 2021, they highlighted key milestones, captured photographs, and gathered perspectives on the industry's evolution. This includes a collection of video interviews with the 50 past presidents and a visual summary of event highlights from NorCal CCIM.
These initial items form the foundation of The Legacy Project, a repository of CCIM history, insights, and perspectives. This ongoing effort may eventually lead to a book, a documentary, or at the very least, a comprehensive collection of information accessible to anyone interested in the history of commercial real estate.
CCIM has been the undisputed authority on commercial investment real estate. Its educational programs, embraced globally, have introduced industry-standard concepts such as Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Net Present Value (NPV), and Cap Rate. Beyond education, CCIM has expanded its vision to include networking, technology, marketing, ethical standards, and political advocacy. With over 50 chapters worldwide, these components elevate professionalism both regionally and collectively.
The Legacy Project is being coordinated by Terry Shores and Tony Rishell. Terry, who retired in 2023, served as Executive Director of NorCalCCIM for 20 years and has been associated with the National Association of Realtors since 1982. Tony is a champion of legacy leadership practices and organizational culture development, advising families with real estate legacies and coaching clients.
